What is a medallion?

- anything resembling a medal in form, used as an ornament, in a design, etc.

An elegant chandelier in a dining room makes a huge impact in the appearance of the room. I would even say that a good chandelier mounted on a medallion makes all the difference in the world.

Another way to lighten your room using ceiling accents is to install metal medallions. You all may have seen tradition ceiling medallions in old-fashioned saloons and hotels but now they are seen as modern décor.
Medallions are very inexpensive way to create a look that’s all your own. A ceiling can just be a ceiling, however it can also be your new way of implementing your sense of style and personality into your home. After all it is your home, create with it what you please.

You don't have to use a traditional moulded medallion or a professional to install one. Look for inexpensive metal wall sculptures or mirrors that you would traditionally use on a vertical surface and trick the eye by installing it up on the ceiling.

Medallions don't have to be 3 dimensional, you can either project an image on the ceiling and paint or stencil with sponge to create something that is shown in the image below.
