**Color Psychology**

It is important to understand the psychology of color choices. Colors evoke feelings and represent ideas. The effects of color differ among different cultures and so do the attitudes and preferences. For example, white is the color of death in Chinese culture, but purple represents death in Brazil. Yellow is sacred to the Chinese, but signifies sadness in Greece and jealousy in France. In North America, green is typically associated with jealousy. People from tropical countries respond most favourably to warm colors; people from northern climates prefer the cooler colors.

Color psychology has been studied for hundreds of years. It basically means how color affects your mood, which is very important to understand when selecting colors for your home. This post will list the basic principles of color psychology so you can create the desired mood for your space.

* Red is a color that intensifies feelings. It can be very passionate, but can lead to aggression. Red also can make people feel more hungry. Consider using red in a master bedroom or dining room.

* Blue is a tranquil color that has a cooling effect. It reminds us of the water and sky, which is relaxing but can enhance depression. Blue would be a good color for a child's bedroom.

* Yellow is a cheery color. It helps us wake up in the morning, draws attention, and helps people stay alert. A pale yellow would be a good color for a kitchen.

* Purple is a color that is rare in nature and has been used only on royalty in the past. It can evoke a feeling of luxury. Purple can calm emotions and help with creativity. Consider using this color in a formal room or in an art studio.

* Green reminds people of the outdoors since grass and trees are green. It is calming, but not as calming as blue. Green would be a good color for a living room.

* Orange is a bold color. It draws attention but is also warm when mixed with a little brown. Consider using a coppery brown color as accents in a living room.
