Dream Downtown Hotel, NYC by Handel Architects

Dream Downtown Hotel façade from the 17th street.   photograph by Handel Architects LLP

"A camera zoom-in revealed what appeared to be a disk perforated, canted, polished stainless-steel wall. It packed an alien presence, there amongst the predominantly "bricked" West Chelsea/Meat Packing districts. Smiles ensued. Upon closer inspection, we found a construction site in full swing on a renovation project set to transform a faded, misunderstood building into a strikingly new, full-service, luxury hotel destination named The Dream Downtown."    READ THE FULL ARTICLE at SARA/NY HERE

Lookout in Aurland

Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen, two architects residing in Norway, designed a 33 meters high lookout that reminds of a ski jump. The lookout project was part of the national program for reconstruction of touristic roads in the area of Aurland fiord. The perfection of the surrounding nature should not be disturbed by the new building. The lookout stands right above a small city of Sogn og Fjordane situated three hours away from the second biggest city of Norway, Bergen. The architects won the competition of the lookout project and in cooperation with a construction firm Node Engineers they finished the building at the end of 2005. The lookout opened up to the public in the summer of 2006. The project is interesting for its simplicity and elegance, as levitating above the beautiful scenery. The structure 4 meters large and 300m long rears up to 9 meters. The final design did not intervene the peaceful atmosphere of the place. All pines that surrounded the parcel were preserved and nowadays they create an interaction between the construction and the wild.

GEOtube Building Grows its Own Lace-Like Sea Salt Skin

How can architecture autonomously grow and expand when it is not constructed with living materials? It almost sounds like a nonsensical riddle, but such a thing might actually be possible if Faulders Studio ever gets a chance to build its ‘GEOtube Building‘, a concept for Dubai that features a self-built exoskeleton made from accumulated sea salt deposits. ::Wall Lit::

Hey ...I know its been long that I updated you all with the latest and greatest but here is something very innovative on our design board today.
However its only a sneak peak so don't get excited as it'll only be available for you to use in 2012. LOMOX a UK based company has come out with a light emitting wallpaper with OLED or Organic LED film, which will require a very low operating voltage and can also be powered by solar panels or batteries.
The intensity of the light will be very similar to that of the natural light and wallpaper could easily replace any light fixture in the room. So all light fixture companies...beware, you have some major competition now!
Needless to say you can get the most out of it...install it as an accent and light fixture at the same time & don't forget to check out the creator's website LOMOX

Decorate the Water!

Hey all...my previous post had some laser cut mirror decals/stickers, now moving forward into technology this post elaborates on water proof decals and talk about water proofing, you can literally install them on the pool floor.
One of the most economical ways to decorate your pool without having to splurge in glass mosaic patterns that can be very expensive most of the times. Just paint the pool with high quality enamel paints and decorate it with decals. The decals are made of water and UV resistant materials so you can technically install it both inside or outside the pool. Tons of designs to pick from, whatever suits your mood and decor.
Very easy to install and makes your pool a fun experience. I would love one...not the sticker but the pool first :)
